Scientific notes

Cicatrix traumatica patellae. According to the documentation this could be a case of consequences of a fracture of the patella, which was penetrating however incomplete and later infected.

  • Anterior view. The patella is enlarged and anteroposteriorly flattened. On its lower pole it is jagged and above the defect there is a tapered foramen with smooth edges that communicated with the knee joint interstice.

  • Posterior view. On the dorsal surface there is a trace of a vertically running grove from the foramen to the middle of the patella. According to the documentation this could be a case of consequences of a fracture of the patella, which was penetrating, however incomplete, and later infected.
